A Taste of Legacy: Tomoka Fine & Rare at Powerscourt Distillery

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting one of Ireland’s most iconic whisky destinations — the Powerscourt Distillery in County Wicklow. Set within a breathtaking 1,000-acre estate that includes a 5-star hotel, two championship golf courses, and one of the country’s most picturesque gardens, this wasn’t just a distillery tour — it was a full-sensory immersion into Irish heritage and craft.

An Evening to Savour

We were invited to an exclusive tasting event hosted for our investors — a beautifully curated evening of light bites and whisky pairings that highlighted the elegance and complexity of the Fercullen range. The pairings were spot on, showcasing how the right food can draw out hidden notes in each dram.

The mood was relaxed and convivial, with just the right balance of indulgence and insight. These kinds of evenings are where stories are shared, connections are deepened, and a deeper appreciation of the spirit in your glass is born.

Meet the Makers

Cask Estate Manager Kevin McParland kicked things off with a walk-through of Powerscourt’s cask program — a role that’s central to shaping the flavour profile of every Fercullen expression. His passion for the finer details was infectious, and it gave us a new perspective on how much thought goes into every barrel selection.

Later, we had the rare opportunity for a one-to-one with Master Distiller Paul Corbett. Paul’s approach is equal parts science and soul — precise, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in a respect for tradition. Talking shop with him was a real highlight, as he shared insights into the spirit cuts, fermentation tweaks, and cask choices that define the house style.

From Grain to Glass

The distillery tour itself was a real treat — from the gleaming copper stills to the silent calm of the maturation warehouse, everything was steeped in care and purpose. You could feel the pride in every corner of the place, not just in the whisky, but in the way the story of Powerscourt is told and preserved.

History, Heritage, and Heart

Powerscourt is more than a distillery — it’s a living piece of Irish history. The estate dates back over 800 years, and that sense of legacy is everywhere, from the architecture to the surrounding landscape. You get the feeling that time moves differently here — slower, more intentional, more rooted.

A Shared Spirit

At Tomoka Fine & Rare, we’re always looking to connect with partners who share our values – authenticity, quality, and a deep respect for the craft. Our visit to Powerscourt felt like a perfect alignment. This wasn’t just about tasting great whisky –  it was about understanding where it comes from, who makes it, and why it matters.

We left with full glasses, full hearts, and a renewed appreciation for the craft that brings us all together.
