There’s plenty to talk about in the world of whisky at the moment. From a long-awaited Speyside comeback to industry restructuring that savvy investors should pay close attention to, here’s everything you need to know.

Tormore 16-Year-Old Sherry Cask

Tormore 16-Year-Old Sherry Cask: A Classic May Be Coming Back

Good news for Speyside enthusiasts. A label for a Tormore 16 Years Sherry Cask has surfaced in the U.S. TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) database, strongly hinting that this beloved age-statement expression is set to return under new ownership.

The label details are promising. Bottled at 46.8% ABV, the whisky is matured in a combination of European and American oak sherry casks before receiving a further finish in sherry oak. Tasting notes printed directly on the label reference toffee, citrus and spice, which suggests a characterful, well-rounded dram.

No official launch date has been confirmed, but the whisky community is already buzzing, and all signs point to this expression landing in 2026. One to watch.

Suntory Restructures at Bowmore and Laphroaig: Why This Is Good News for Whisky Buyers and Investors

Suntory Global Spirits has announced plans to merge the operational teams at its two iconic Islay distilleries, Bowmore and Laphroaig. The move involves voluntary redundancy packages for operational staff, though distillation will continue at both sites and each distillery will retain its individual identity and character.

On the surface, restructuring news can feel unsettling. But look a little closer and this decision makes a great deal of sense, both from a business perspective and for anyone with an interest in whisky investment.

The reality is that the market has shifted. Consumer spending is under pressure, household finances are tighter, and bottle sales have slowed across the board. Producers simply cannot maintain current supply levels if demand is not keeping pace. Suntory is doing what any responsible custodian of long-maturation stock should do: aligning production with reality before an imbalance causes deeper problems down the line.

Here is why this matters for buyers and collectors. When production slows, what is already maturing in those warehouses becomes more valuable by default. Supply tightens, and scarcity drives price. At the same time, we are currently in a buyers’ market. Retail prices are soft, cask prices have come down, and entry points that would have been unthinkable two or three years ago are now available. The whisky being laid down and sold today, at today’s prices, is likely to look very attractive in five to ten years’ time when production cutbacks begin to feed through to reduced availability.

In short, Suntory’s restructuring is not a sign of decline. It is a signal that smart money should be paying attention.
